flying by

Again the weeks seem to be flying by.  Last weekend was a lot of fun.  On Friday night I went to the KDS Crush Party.  The party was sponsored by one of the other sororities on campus and was held at the Tic Toc.  The event was a semi-formal so everyone got dressed up and had a great time.

On Saturday morning I got up early and went with other Deltas from my house to run a 5k.  The 5K was at the Partridge Run, a nicely paved path near campus where a lot of charity events will hold fund raisers.  This particular one was for a young boy who died.

This week has been extremely busy and hot!  The weather yesterday was in the 90s which is so unusual for Canton this time of year.  I know it will get cold soon though and then everyone will be wishing that it were hot again.  On Monday night my sorority hosted a woman on campus who is a Delta and graduated from a university in Miami.  The woman had a daughter who died after she was sexually assaulted.  We hosted the event in a hopes to raise awareness on campus.  I think the event was very effective in that many people came.  It was certainly shocking to hear such a first hand account though.  Last night I had my usually weekly tour guide meeting.  We have a visit day coming up in two weeks and then this coming week we have a college fair.  I have class during the visit day but I will be helping out with a good portion of the college fair.

I also held a Student Alumni Association Meeting last night after the tour guide meeting.  This weekend is a big and busy weekend for SAA because the Alumni Council is coming to campus.  The council comes to campus two time a year and so we want to make their time worthwhile.  On Friday afternoon we have a luncheon with them to discuss traditions that they wish were still at SLU in hope that maybe we can bring some back.  This weekend is also family weekend.  My family is not coming up because I am usually so busy during the weekend that I like them to come up other times during the year.  However there is a big home football game.  The dance team is going to dance during half time and we as SAA are going to throw out t-shirts to the fans.  On Sunday there is a 5k run for breast cancer which I am thinking about doing.

I am looking forward to tomorrow night because my sorority is hosting Celebrity Party at the Tic Toc.  We are all dressing up in various costumes and we invited most of the campus to come.  It should be a lot of fun.

Well back to work.....

busy week

This week was extremely busy.  I feel like I had no time to sit down.  I am not complaining though because it was filled with fun.  One of the sisters in my house turned 21 and so we had a big party for her at the Cactus Bar and Grill.  The restaurant is in Potsdam which is about 20 minutes from Canton.  It is a very popular place for St Lawrence students.  They have the best guacamole and quesedillas.  It makes me hungry thinking about them.  Anyways about 55 people came to the party and everyone had a great time.  This week is also rush week for the Greek houses.  It is a chance for sophomore girls to tour all of the houses and to attend various events to get to know the girls who are already involved in Greek life at SLU.  Yesterday was my favorite day of the whole week.  I love it because each house performs a skit in front of all of the potential members.  Last night my house voted for the  new members that we would like to have and today is Bid Day.  This afternoon we have to go to the quad at the center of campus to pick up our new members and to take them back to our house to celebrate.  I can't wait to see their faces.  Bid Day is such an exciting time for all the new members in the house as well as those who are already members.  Tonight we are all going to go out to dinner at 1844 which is a little restaurant at the edge of town.

All of my classes have been going great as well.  I have had a lot of reading and writing since I am taking three history classes and one government.  The nice thing about college is that though I have a lot of work I don;t mind it because it is in topics that I am extremely interested in.  Unlike high school where you have to take a set group of classes each year in college you have the freedom to choose what areas of study you would like to focus on.

Speaking of work I probably should get to some of it before I start my busy day.  Write again soon.

back at it

I can not believe I am back on campus already.  This summer just flew by.  I spent last semester abroad in China and so I got home June 10th.  It is hard to believe that I have already been home for 2.5 months.  However I am so happy to be back.  It has been great seeing all of my friends and classmates some of them which I have not seen in a year.  My dad and I made the drive from Albany to Canton on Monday.  We stopped at our usual place for lunch, the Adirondack Hotel in Long Lake, along the way.  I had a grilled chicken sandwich and my dad a Reuben, both of which were delicious.

Tuesday night I went to my first senior blues at the Hoot Owl.  It was so fun seeing everyone.  Today is the first day of classes.  I have had two classes so far both of which I am looking forward to.  This year I am taking Cultures of MesoAmerica, Western Democracies, Slavery and Freedom in the Americas, and Medieval World.  The classes are going to be tough but I am excited nonetheless.

Rush for the Greek System is coming up in the next few weeks. Tonight I have a meeting to go over all of the rules associated with rush.  I can not wait to meet the new girls who are interested in going Greek.

Well I have to head off to my last class for the day.
